The 22-year-old Swiss athlete finished with an impressive time of 1:55.88, outpacing Britain’s Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson, who came in second with a time of 1:56.26. Femke Broeders-Bol rounded out the top three. From the outset, Werro maintained a commanding lead, eventually surging ahead in the final 300 meters. This win marks the culmination of an outstanding season for Werro, who has claimed victory in 14 of her 15 outdoor races, solidifying her status as a top contender in the 800m event.
Despite facing challenges this season, Hodgkinson expressed pride in her performance, particularly after overcoming a hamstring injury that had hindered her ability to complete the necessary speed training to compete at her usual level. Her second-place finish in Budapest marks a notable achievement under these circumstances.
In another event, Georgia Hunter Bell secured second place in the women’s 1500m, trailing Poland’s Klaudia Kazimierska, who crossed the finish line in 3:57.55, just 0.15 seconds ahead. Hunter Bell’s performance earned her a $75,000 prize, adding to a season already highlighted by significant championship victories.
The women’s 100m also saw a standout performance, with world champion Melissa Jefferson-Wooden clocking the fastest time globally this year at 10.62 seconds. Olympic champion Julien Alfred followed closely in second at 10.74 seconds, while Sha’Carri Richardson completed the race in third place with a time of 10.76 seconds.
