To support this initiative, Google is on the hunt for a senior Strategic Partnerships Development Manager in Seoul. The role will involve collaborating with Korean businesses, public institutions, and technology partners. According to Google, this recruitment is part of a broader effort to establish a dedicated local team to facilitate the rollout of these new features.
Currently, Google Maps in South Korea offers place listings, reviews, and public transit information but lacks the driving and walking navigation that is standard in other regions. By adding these functionalities, Google aims to provide a more comprehensive mapping service that could potentially appeal to a wider audience in the country.
While the export of high-precision map data has been cleared, subject to certain conditions, Google has yet to announce when these new features will go live. The company is expected to partner with local data providers to enhance mapping quality and offer improved traffic, address, parking, and public transport information.
