Vietnam has underscored its pivotal role in bolstering cooperation between ASEAN and Russia, following the ASEAN–Russia Commemorative Summit celebrating 35 years of dialogue relations. Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung emphasized Vietnam’s significant contributions to the summit’s success, highlighting efforts to promote ASEAN’s central role and support the deepening of the bloc’s strategic partnership with Russia.
Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng led the Vietnamese delegation, advocating for dialogue, cooperation, peaceful dispute resolution, and respect for international law. The delegation proposed expanding collaboration in critical areas such as energy, trade, transport connectivity, agriculture, and digital transformation. These proposals were woven into the summit’s new frameworks, which aim to fortify ASEAN–Russia cooperation through 2030, with a strong emphasis on energy as a key partnership pillar.
In a move reflecting its commitment to future regional collaboration, Vietnam announced plans to host the ASEAN–Russia Young Diplomats Summit in 2027. This initiative aims to foster further cooperation in the coming years. On the sidelines of the summit, Prime Minister Hưng engaged in talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, where both nations reaffirmed their dedication to enhancing the Vietnam–Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Their discussions centered on expanding cooperation across various sectors, including energy, trade, infrastructure, science and technology, education, and transport.
Vietnam believes the summit’s outcomes will not only strengthen ASEAN–Russia relations but also enhance regional stability. By fostering these ties, new opportunities for economic growth and cooperation across the Eurasian region are anticipated, further solidifying Vietnam’s role as a key player in the ongoing dialogue and partnership between ASEAN and Russia.
